Central Idaho's fire danger escalates: Public urged to take caution

According to a recent news release, due to weather and fuel conditions, the Central Idaho Dispatch Zone has moved to Very High Fire Danger, which means fires can start from most causes.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the fires can spread rapidly and quickly increase in intensity right after ignition. Small fires can quickly become large and exhibit extreme fire intensity, such as long-distance spotting and fire whirls. These fires can be hard to control and will often become longer-lasting.

Forest officials are asking the public to be careful when camping and to remember that it is their job and responsibility to maintain and extinguish all campfires.

If you plan a camping, hiking or motorized trip, be especially cautious about actions that could cause a wildfire.
