A free, public demonstration of advanced Ki-Aikido arts will be presented Saturday, February 10, at the Wailuku Gym, 2020 Pakahi St., 3:30 to 4:00 p.m., by the Keio University Ki-Aikido Club from Tokyo. The fifteen exceptionally acrobatic martial arts students will be on Maui as part of a Hawaii Ki Federation seminar taught by Shinichi Tohei Sensei, President and Chief Instructor of Ki Society Headquarters in Japan.

Seventy years ago in 1953, Master Koichi Tohei, the founder of the martial arts school of Ki-Aikido and father of Shinichi Tohei Sensei, traveled to all the Hawaiian Islands to bring the art of Aikido and establish dojos throughout the territory. Because he had established a strong relationship with the Maui students and their teacher Shinichi Suzuki Sensei, the Keio martial arts club has continued to regularly send their dynamic young members to train with students on Maui and to demonstrate the fluid beauty of Aikido arts.

In conjunction with the seminar and demonstration, Maui Ki-Aikido is offering an introductory course for adult and teen beginners in Ki-Aikido covering all aspects of the martial art over four consecutive Friday nights in March, beginning March 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Shunshinkan Dojo, 194 S. Market, Wailuku.
